When laying a floating wood floor down, which direction should the planks run?
Question:would it look better to run the planks horizontally or vertically from, let's say, the entrance to the room? the room is square.
Answers:
EVER CONSIDER DOING THE "HORIZONTIAL" PATTERN.
The should lay the same direction as the long part of the room.
If you are only running one room, it is your preference. If you are running more than one room, I have found that it is easier to run through the doors than to put a piece across the doorway. For example, we ran it all the way through a rental trailer that we had and we ran from end to end (left to right) and it went really well.
I love floating floor. It really wears well.
THE LONGER THE RUN THE LESS CUTS YOU NEED
START OUT,WITH A CUT OF 16IN THAT WAY YOU STAGGER THE JOINTS, I USE 3/4 TRIM AROUND THE BASE OF THE ,BOARDS, PRE PAINTED
START FROM THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF YOUR ROOM!!
you start at the left on the back wall and lay the planks left to right. the idea is, you dont want a bunch of cut planks coming to the rooms door sill. you want ONE plant that runs in the same direction as the doorsill...
Same direction of your pathway is easier for cleaning and will have the least wear problems. Diagonal is attractive but takes much more cutting and waste.
Start from the side wall that would be more visible after furniture & curtains returned; then the partial cut boards will be less visible. Make sure you allow a 'breathing' space around all wall edges. Usually have a cross board or similar trim at doorway.
the longest width.
start at your longest wall and run them vertically when entering the room. i think it looks best but its all you
