Does anyone have experience with "do it yourself" CLOSED cell foam insulation?

Question:I was wondering if anyone had experience with these kits and if they are the same quality foam that an installer uses. For me it's difficult to buy claims that a do it yourself kit is the same quality as an installer with a truck full of equipment for the job. But an installer's equipment may just be to get the job done faster. If i'm not mistaken, installers heat their foam to 130 degrees to spray it. I'd appreciate any input because i was just quoted $13,000 to insulate my house with this. Thanks

We had icynene professionally installed in our house we were buiding. It was about 2200 sq. feet and was installed during construction for $6500 5 years ago. That was about twice the cost of the pink/yellow stuff, but man oh man, the insulation factor wsa wonderful!

If your house is already built, retro-ing the insulation probabl is harder to do, esp in the walls. I could see a bit of an upcharge for that, but not $13,000 worth! Yipes!

I'd suggest wiating until the weather is milder and the installer needs work and get another quote. Or find more installers. Call installers from a near a big city.

Sorry, I have no clue about DIY sprayed foam insulation, except the cans of "Great Stuff", but you'd go broke using that!
