Door stop depth?

Question:I'm installing FD30 fire doors in a house that I'm renovating and I'm wondering if 12mm door stops will pass building control? Someone told me that I need 25mm depth stops, but looking at all of the paperwork that I can find - 12mm seems to be the acceptable minimum - does anyone know for sure?

Answers:
FD 30 is an half hour fire check door so having a 12mm doorstop/rebate is sufficient but is only the minimum

you could install 25mm doorstops and go for overkill, some building inspectors like more rather than just the minimum, the down side is the maximum width between the door jambs is reduced by an inch if you fix wider door stops

hope this helps

thanks

hi i have always in stalled 25 mm stops on fd 30 doors they should be glued and screwed to the frame or linning.your door or the frame may also need door closers fitted and intumesant strips .for what the thicker stops cost it not worth fitting the smaller one.you can always exceed the building regs building control will give you credit for it as they then know your not cutting corners on the regs.
