How do It make a garden tripod from three tomato stakes and have a point at the apex.?
Question:This is about maths and angles and I can not work it out.
Answers:
Ok.. First think equilateral triangle ABC. The center of this tripod will be where you plant your tomato.AB is 2', BC is 2', CA is 2'.
Now, I want your garden stakes 3'8" long. They will be driven into the ground about 6" at points A, B, and C.
Plant the tomato in the middle.
Then, you will bring the garden stakes together to make an apex; tie them together, screw them together, it doesn't matter.
So, what you will end up with is a cool, sturdy pyramid about 3' tall, 2' diameter. The stakes will make a ~70 degree angle with the ground inside the cage. The stakes will be about 20 degrees apart at the apex.
I do it this way so the structure is sturdy... I don't have to "bang" a premade structure into the ground... One more thought, tie twine around the pyramid to help the tomato support itself as it grows up.
Happy Gardening!
Your long cuts, the angle can be at any angle you want. If you know how high you want it, the lay them together and scribe the angle you want. It should be steep, like 70 or more degrees. The main thing is to make all three stakes the same . Hold a stake in front of you , looking at the face of the angle cut. Draw a line down the center. All three the same. Now, the next cut is a BEVEL cut. This is a 30 degree cut on each side of the center line. It is much safer to do the beveling with a hand planer. Unless you are highly experienced, this is DANGERIOUS with power saws. Good luck.
