I want to tile a food processing area with ceramic tile that is used seasonally.?
Question:The area is unheated and air temperatures can exceed -40F. Any ideas on how to do this successfully? I am worried that the tile will not work due to expansion and contraction.

Tile can be set outside but some differences from standard installation are necessary. You want to use tile that is not very absorbent. This is usually floor tile from a quality maker. Home Depot gives you ratings for this sort of thing. Set them on a underlayment that is tough too such as cement tile backer board. Set with acrylic modified premium thinset, grout with quality grout, and seal with penetrating sealer.

I tiled an outside barbeque three years ago, over concrete, regular high gloss floor/wall ceramic tiles, with water thinned thinset. It gets over 100 degrees here and this winter got down to 20. No problemo with the tiles.
