Is there a tool to help route wires behind and into a wall unit which is too wide to reach with myarms alone ?
Question:I have a 3 unit wall unit which houses my component stereo system. most of the components are in the middle unit, but the amplifier is in the rightmost unit. When I put the wires from the components through the back of the center unit, I am unable to reach them from the end of the side units to grab hold and pull them over to route them over to the amplifier. The wall unit is heavy so i am trying to avoid having to move the side unit to get behind it to reach the wires behind the center unit. Thought there might be something i could use to reach across behing the unit (about 5-6 feet) which could hook on to the ends of the component signal cables so i could pull them over towards the opening in the back of the side unit.

Use a coat hanger or go to home depot and ask them for glow rods, also you could use an electricians wire fish. also you may want to get retro rings to make your holes that way you can put wall plates on them.
Yes, it's called fishing wire. Electricians use it to run wires into walls and it's available at any home improvement store. Or, you could just tie a string or wire around one end and feed it through to the side. ;)

yes there is a cable, it is very long and used by cable people and electricians used to do exactly what you want guide wires were they cant. Is about 40 to 50 ft long with a hook at the end .
You need a wire than is thick, so you can bend it to a certain shape, and it will hold that shape. Fish that thicker wire from here to there, then tie/tape your stereo wires to the end of that thicker wire and pull it thru.
Hardware stores have 10 gauge wire. A used-construction-material store would have excess, odd-length wire you could buy.
Dude.a piece of string and a wire coat hanger.don't go out and buy a tool you will only use once...
the correct name is a fish tape. yes as others have said use that. of course ensure all power to that area is off. WORK SAFE/WORK SMART. seeing you are only going to use it for a onejob use i would recommend you take a wire hanger or a broom stick with tape...
