How do I make an old surfboard into a coffee table?

Question:I got a used fiberglass surf board and want to make it into a coffee table.

Fiberglass is pretty fragile, so if I drill a bunch of screws in it everything will probably just fall apart.

I also thought of just getting a glass top coffee table, take off the glass, and nail the surfboard to it.

Can any handy master give me step-by-step suggestions? Thanks in advance.

This has been done before.
You can buy all kinds of leg sets at any good home center.
They screw on to the "bottom" of your board. If your board is foam filled you'll need to use hollow wall anchors. Fiberglass is as good as wood when it comes to screw holding power.
.
For the top, sand, smooth and paint, just as if you were going to use the board. Surf board paint is waterproof and durable to begin with.
Follow up with two coats of clear polyurethane and your set to go.

Sounds like an interestin project
I would make some steel bands that go around the board then slide them along till theyre nestling real tight (maybe use some glue underneath) but heres the tricky part..underneath the bands you should have welded 4 large steel nuts and these are were you screw in the legs....you could weld the threaded bolt ends to the legs etc....or before you slide the bands on, weld some legs to the underside of the band. kinda hard to explain in words but i cant be stuffed drawing it.
Your best bet is to use the glass top coffee table idea but superglue the surfboard, don't nail it.

Remove the glass top. Remove the rubber suction cups, if the coffee table uses them.

Liberally squeeze superglue over the surfaces that supported the glass.

Place the surfboard on the coffee table legs and weigh down with the copies of Shakespeare and The Bible that have so far been collecting dust.

Go to sleep.

Awake the next day to a surfboard coffee table.
I wouldn't nail it. I would super glue it to 3 stripped logs, whatever diameter, weight it with something heavy till glue dries, or find a nice piece of driftwood that has 3 upward pointing prongs, level them, then glue, or as already mentioned, use proper fastening devices for fiberglass to wood. I would paint it, seal it, then get a piece of glass or plexiglass cut to fit the top. Or, if you've won any surf awards, or have some great surfing/beach pics, place them under the glass.
