What is the best way to paint plastic molding?

Question:I recently purchased a mid-80's condo with "plastic" base molding. I would like to repaint it. I will eventually replace the molding with wood when I put in hardwood floors...

Answers:
i use spray paint as a primer then latex like any other molding

If you use and oil based undercoat you should be OK to paint it however you feel, that is in Acrylic or Enamel the undercoat will bond well to the molding
If it wasn't on the wall I would recommend a product called "Fusion" a spray that is made by Krylon but seeing since it's already installed go ahead and use a 100% acrylic , Good luck Les the painter
All valid answers so far, (Thumbs up to all) but you need not spray. Use Blue 2 inch painters tape to mask the wall above the base molding, clean the base molding prior to painting, prime it, and paint latex.

The extruded, cellular moldings are a decent alternative when budget is a factor, and are more widely used lately.
