Do i have to install my window a/c in a window?

Question:i just need this unit for a couple of weeks but the window it will go is high off the ground and can't be mounted properly. can't i just put it on a side table and put a pan under it for drainage? do i have to worry about gases leaking into the house? i am hot and desperate! help..

Answers:
Putting it on a side table I assume you mean the entire AC will be in the room. That will do you absolutely no good as you will just be blowing the hot air from the condensor right back in the room. The reason half of the AC sticks outdoors is to vent that hot air outside. They make portable ACs that are entirely in the room but you run an exhaust hose out a window or other portal to vent the hot air out.

No the heat comming out of the back of the unit will heat your room more then the cooler will cool it.
That will not work. It will blow out cold air from the front, but it will blow out hot air from the back plus the heat form the energy used. The net result is , that it will be hotter in your room. The a/c must vent to the outside or at least into another room-which will get very hot.
Yup! It needs to go in the window due to the drainage it produces while exchanging the humidity and condensing it down to condensate which is excess h2o you are pulling out of the air space to replace the hot air & humidity to keep you cool. Find some type of frame it could be mounted in from an old junk yard or trailor park.

get 2 fans... face one in a window blowing IN your space, and place another one in a window that will be blowing air OUT of the other window.
Create a vacuum effect and it will keep air moving all of the time and your space much cooler.

If all else fails.hello family I have come to visit for a couple of weeks...glad to be here! lol
