Shower Faucets?
Question:Can anyone tell me if the pressure can be affected if I installed a Single Handle Shower set into my shower where there it is currently a three knob right now?
Answers:
What may happen if I am getting the jest of your question is the old faucet by it being 3 handled and you are wanting to change it.
First of all the old faucet was before the worry of wasting water from the Gov. EPA.
At first they aloud the faucet manufactures to do was on the shower part of the faucet out put, (shower head) they had them install a almost solid rubber washer and they put like 6 may 8 real tiny holes in it to cut down the volume of water used when showering. But the faucet still had a true 1/2 inch size inlets to it.
Today the faucets are reduced down to 3/8 inch inside the faucet, and I have even seen smaller size restrictions. Plus they still use the rubber re stricter in the shower head.
No matter what get rid of the rubber restrictor in the thread part of the shower head if you are worried about pressure.
I am a plumber and a self doer this is how I make a living and what I have done to my shower heads is take them apart and drill the largest hole I can get away with so I can actually get wet and rinse the suds off me during a shower.
The bad thing about the single handle is the water is going through a cartridge with numerous ports. I have all single handled tub/shower or shower faucets and in messing with the shower heads I don't have much trouble.
Yes it can.or at least it was at my house.when we moved in we changed faucets.and did the same thing, put in a single where there was a 3 knob one.and it made the pressure decrease..we fixed it a few weeks later by putting in another faucet.
Pressure is strictly based on the amount of volume you supply the manifolds (faucets) They type of shower faucets have very little to do with the amount of water that comes out of the shower head.
When someone changes the shower manifold then sometimes particles get into the head and slow the flow down.
It shouldnt have anything to do with it. If you installed a new handle it may have a restictor in it to conserve water. I drilled mine out in the shower head. works much better now. If you drill yours out, it dosent take much to see an improvement. It should be a small plastic ring behind the holes in the head or in the neck of the head. Be careful, dont wreck it. Its easy to do.
no the faucet does not affect the pressure.
Your 3 handle tub faucet let more water to flow. The new style single lever faucet, are designed to save water, and there is a decrease in pressure & volume of water. Lots of people complain about them, they do save water.
