I need some ideas on materials to use for a dog run.?
Question:Approx. 200 ft long around the back yard. For large, ENERGETIC, lab mix. I'm trying to get under $500.
Answers:
Get some fence. If not a dog trolley works well. I had a lab most of my life and she was very easy to train to stay in the yard. She knew to wait to be told to leave.
overhead steel cable on a strong rope leash strung between 2 poles. Never use a choke chain or prong colar to hook the dog to the overhead rope. use a well fitted buckle collar
Chain link is best for big dogs. For small dogs you could get away with chicken wire but a big dog will pull this down within 5-6 months. I suppose it would work if you don't mind redoing it though. That would definitely keep it within your budget, but would be more work.
I would get the plastic coated cable at a local hardware store
a long with 2 u bolts clamps to fasten it with. Pull really tight so there's not much slack and mabe anothere piece for the lead !!! hope that works for ya
cable and a good length of chain and a nice collar will come in cheap and is alot less work to put together than chainlink or a wood fence.
I have a husky/german shep mix, I use a metal cable tied to two trees, attached to that is a garage door spring, which you can get at your local hardware store. You attach that to the cable with a U bolt with a screw lock, then some chain so the dog can run. Use clamps with a fastener attached, like a C clamp with a screw thing attached to lock it. He loves it, hence no dog hair in the house... good luck!!
