Question on a bracket for a wooden shelf?

Question:i got some wooden shelves and brackets recently, and i have a dilemma. the brackets kind of look like asymmetrical boomerangs, with one side longer than the other. what i don't know is whether the long side goes on the wall or the shelf?

Answers:
The longer side goes with the shelf, short with wall (for more support).

The longer side should go down the wall and the shorter one across the bottom of the shelf.
Yes. Long side goes on the wall, short side designed for shelf width. (The old leverage principle).
guess it depends on the width of your shelf, but the long side ordinarilly goes on the wall. usually the short side has only one hole that will take a screw.
longer side on the wall.

review cantilever designs.
The longer side goes against the wall.
