How can I add insulation behind drywall that is already in place?
Question:I just moved into an older home and the basement is finished, however in the winter it gets too cold to use 40-50F...there is paneling over drywall and one wall has no drywall just paneling on the 2x4's, my basement opens up to my garage and the longest wall is not under the ground, so I plan on tearing down the paneling and putting updated paneling but want to know if there is anyway to add insulation without tearing down all the drywall and having to redo that too? ( there are three windows down there that are total crap and I am replacing those too if that info is needed)

One drills holes between studs and blows in expanding foam insulation. ~
Then use plastic plugs to close the holes. Just did that on a 100 year old house.
There's foam insulation that can be sprayed into the walls.
One way to do it is to cut small holes in the exterior siding, between the studs, and have insulation blown in. But that leaves you with a bunch of exterior holes to be patched.
you could "blow in" insulation but you would have a patch between every set of studs... or you could use foam board insulation in 4x8 sheets over the drywall before you re-panel...good luck
Hi Tiffiney,You would have to have it blown in. They use blowers, or pumps that blow a liquid kind of stuff into the walls, and once inside,it puffs up. I don't know how much that costs though. We need it done to,but haven' gotten around to it. Bye
