I broke some masonry bolts off in the concrete even after drilling starter holes.Help,I need to finish!!?
Question:I was putting up a railing and they broke as I was screwing them in.Now I can't finish until I figure out how to fix this without starting over?

If I understand correctly, you're attaching a railing to a masonry wall with bolts and they snapped. Sounds like either your holes are too short and/or too narrow AND you are using too much torque. Check the bolt width and length vs. the bit you're using. I'm guessing you can't remove the broken bolts. You can try using a screw extractor just go easy or you'll torque it in half just like the bolts. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. If you can get enough of the shaft exposed, you can remove the rest with vice-grips.
Once you get the broken bolts out, check the instructions to make sure you're using the correct bit. The bit should be the same width as the shaft of the bolt not including the threads. If the hole is all messed up by now, squirt a little adhesive inside before you insert the new bolt. There are other sorts of masonry fasteners out there so you might want to try something different if this doesn't work.
You may have to get a metal drill and drill out the bolts or use an easyout kit.
I don't know how big the bolts are that you are using but I would suggest using redheads or concrete anchors instead of bolts.
umm well it dependes on what type you were using and if it broke off at the concret if they snaped off flush with the concret you can either start over and drill new holes and use a bit 1 size bigger or you can drill out the bolt with a metal bit and try again if it keeps happening try different bolts or get Simpson Strong Tie bolts there made for concret and most of them come with the bit i get mine at 84lumber
Can you drill out the cement around the bolt and then use a little bit of wet cement to fill in the hole before you put some new bolts in?
