How to fix a rotting bathroom floor cheap??
Question:I rent the house, my landloard is aware of the floor caving in due to water from the shower and has planned to fix it since Feb, hello it's JULY! You have to jump over the sagging part in the middle of the floor so it won't cave in, I really would like a easy and cheap way to fix it until he fixes it, IF he ever does just while I'm here so it won't cave in and allow snakes and who knows what else thru the hole it'll make..
Answers:
1.Tell the landlord about the hole in front of a witness.
2.Get a good shyster lawyer.
3.Fall in the hole.
4. Law suit.
5. Collect umpteen trillion dollars.
6.Give me my cut.
At Home Depot type places you can get precut plywood in pieces like 2' by 4' and you can get really inexpensive area rugs. Get a piece of plywood big enough to cover the hole (1/2" thick is enough) and a rug to cover the wood. Then push harder on the landlord.
Check your rental agreement to see if there's a clause about the landlord making repairs in a timely fashion. If there is you can often get the job properly done yourself if he has not done so. Then send him the bill or deduct it from the rent.
And forget the snakes! You have a serious safety and health issue to worry about.
1) tripping and falling
2) toxic mold.
I mean mold beyond ordinary mildew. Mold rich in mycotoxins such as STACHYBOTRYS which loves water and construction material! Check out how bad it is on healthandenergy.com
Had the similar problem with mine. Take sheet of plywood, cut and placed over existing floor, nail where possible. If want to go further, some discount stores have self adhesive tiles, cheap. Just peel and stick. I think this is the cheapest way to go. Good luck with your project.
Four easy steps:
1)Step in the hole
2) break your leg
3) sue the Landlord
4) retire
