How would I cut a hole in a glass buoy without breaking it?
Question:I would like to make a lamp out of one of those old glass ocean buoy's.
Answers:
A dremal tool, with a glass cutting bit.
Go to the Home Depot & buy a glass cutter . . . it is a small tool that is only a few dollars . . cut (or score) a line around the buoy and gently snap it apart (sometimes it requires more pressure than . . gentle)
GOod luck!
You might be able to go to a home improvement store and see if they have any glass cutting devices. I believe diamond is the the only thing that can cut glass (I've been told that anyways) and the glass cutters I believe have tiny little diamonds to do so. Again, I could be wrong! Good luck!
I have always used a Dremel drill with one of the available diamond tip bits for drilling a hole in glass. The diamond bits come in many different sizes and the Dremel type drills are extremely easy to use and handle.
As far as I know, diamond tip bits (on a Dremel type, or other type drill) is the best way and maybe the only good way to cut glass.
Or, you could always use a map gas torch for blowing holes in glass if you are comfortable with that sort of thing and know how to do it properly as well as safely. Me, I don't venture into that. I just stick with the Dremel! ;)
Torch or sandblaster best nonviolent ways, low risk of breakage!
