How long does our leach line need to be in California with a perc rate of...?
Question:3 minutes per inch? I found this website that says that for a 3 bedroom house we 187 feet of leach line, but I'm wondering if that is acurate for CA because the website seems to be based on the NY code. http://www.inspect-ny.com/septic/lockwoo... I'm wondering if we need more or less length and what the code for CA says. For the perc test we dug a 5 ft deep hole that was 2 x 4 and level at the bottom. We filled up a wheel barrel with water, poured it in and it took 3-4 minutes for it to drain down one inch. So, with the soil perc test at that rate, does anyone know how much leach line we actually need in CA? I know we are supposed to have a permit for this, but my father-in-law doesn't have the money for that at all. He's can barely afford the cost of the materials for us to do it ourselves. Thanks for your help everyone!

As complicated as this is you want to make sure to get it right. Don't ignore the inspectors, there a great source for information and the ones in my area are very open with information. You just have to get through the red tape to get to it. Check and see if there is a website for your county, it might be a way to get some free info. Your local home improvement center is a useful source of info too! I always approach from the angle that as long as I pay taxes, they work for me and have access to the service they provide. Usually, if you approach them with consideration and respect you'll get positive results.
