Help! My toilet want stop running after it is flushed.?

Question:When u flush the toilet the tank fills with water but the water continues to run. The only way I found to stop it. I took tape and put it on the tube to the ball and stuck it to the tank to pull the ball up or over or something. It worked. So what's wrong with my flusher? Can anyone help? My guess is the ball.I don't think it's the flapper. Are there any how to web sites for that sort of thing?

Answers:
hi there, you will find that the plastic screw that adjusts the flush has snapped off and needs replacing, is it an internal overflow(uk)?
the other thing it could be is the plastic film diafram in the syphon.replace the syphon. (the big column in the middle.

cheers

you need to change your rubber flopper, this is the one causing your water to drain, the last rubber going out to your tank.
A plumber once told me to quickly press the flush button a few times. short and sharp presses - sometimes works otherwise it's a job for the plumber. It's wasting a lot of water to allow it to continue too long.
You can go to DIY.com but if pulling up the floaty thing doesn't make it stop (you won't break it, they're usually adjustable) you should have a screw on top of where the floaty thing attaches to this water tube deal (my god I am such a girl! Stay with me, I just don't don't know what any of the parts are called)and if u you take a screw driver and tighten it your water should stop running after the tank is filled up.
Had the same problem on a fairly new toilet. My husband took a small piece of pipe insulator (cheap at home improvement stores) and put around the bar below the rubber flopper to help it rise. Since it is foam, it floats to the top. Haven't had a problem since doing this and it was a cheap fix.
Hope this helps. Open the back toilet tank. You will see a big ball with a chain attached to the flapper. It sounds like the chain has come off the flapper. Just reattach if the chain is broken go to your local hardware store and buy and new one and reattach. In the meantime sometime if you jiggle the flush handle the running with stop. Hope this helps
Ten to one you have hard water in your area; probably leaving brown crud on the plastic toilet parts. Remove and clean them with Lime Away to fix the problem. The toilet will work like new - until it gets cruddy again in a couple of years.
The washer has probably gone in water inlet of the valve, otherwise, the ball (float) could be full of water, or just catching the side when it rises in which case something is loose.
