Bathroom sink P-Trap?

Question:Should there be a little plastic gasket where the curved section of the p-trap joins with the piece going into the wall? I have a gasket where the "pop-up" tailpiece coming from the sink joins the p-trap and also where the p-trap joins at the drain in the wall, but not one at the joint mentioned above.

Answers:
yes

Yes there should be a tapered clear plastic gasket going into the wall joint. Any place there is a NUT, there should be a gasket with it.

The nut forces the larger end of the gasket, to press into the joint, thus creating a form of a compression seal.
were talking about waater here. if theres a joint theres a gasket
The taper goes into the pipe and the flat against the nut. The nut pushes the taper against the pipe making a tighter fit(eg no leaks). Other way and it will leak for sure.
You should have the nylon gaskets at all joints. The tapered end goes against the larger pipe so the nut will tighten against the flat end of the gasket and press it into the larger pipe.
