In my apartment my watertank vibrates very noisely when its refilling after say flushing the toilet etc.?

Question:Some times I have to turn on the tap for a few seconds to stop it. That does'nt always work. Does anyone know what causes this and is there anything that can be done to stop it. I think its the water pressure which is strong, Im not sure though..

Answers:
Most likely there is air in the water line. We had a similar problem and the water company said that they would have to bleed the main line. That seems to have fixed it.

Time to clean it out. Usually they should be cleaned out on an annual basis, by draining them and allowing the mineral deposits that accumulate on the bottom to flush out.
Your probably right, could just be plain old water hammer. Water travels too fast through the pipes amking them vibrate, and hence your cistern vibrates.

Check the pipes are correctly secured to the wall, aproximatley 1 clip every metre or so. If that doesnt cure it, a pressure reducing valve may be the cure.
Tighten the big bolt under the tank.
