A bracket supporting my curtain rail was ripped out of the wall. Whats the best way to repair the damage?

Light weight spackle is the easiest/fastest patch.
When reinstalling the bracket-- if you can't position it where it the screws will hit a stud (there will be a header directy above the window, and about 2" out on either side, and a stud on either side of the window about 2" out from the finished sides of the window opening), then use drywall anchors. I like the white plastic ones that look kind of like big plastic wood screws.
polyfiller from your local diy store will fill in the holes.
check out http://www.diyfixit.co.uk/
It's a really good site for diy
use pollyfilla from your local b&q or wickes...
i use the wickes one that comes ready mixed in a small bucket. that way you cant go wrong with the amount of water
use a thin scrapper and push the pollyfilla in as much as you can and smooth the surface. let it dry for atleast 24 hours
and when dried completely, drill the holes for the brackets atleast 2-3 inches away to avoid getting the damage again
good luck
No Nails repair damage then when completely dried replace bracket. really cheap you can do it in two stages and fix screws in at first go then when dry more no nails over the top. Works every time and can be bought at any hardware shop. Otherwise its a drill job and plaster or polyfiller for the damaged bit.
readymix polly filler
use polyfiller and sand down - you could put a rawl plug into the soft filler and then you wont have to drill another hole for the screw to hold the bracket on
