Answers:
Well just ONE window a/c unit would be much cheaper than central air but will it keep the whole house comfortable?
The answer is NO.
Central air is much more costly, however it is quieter, is less costly to operate and adds value to your home.
If your going to stay in the house for at least 5 more years, call some HVAC companies and get some quotes on central air.
In the long run central air will be cheaper, window units are always working hard and zapping electic due to it trying to heat all the air around the room your conditioning
A window unit is less expensive, by far.
A window unit would be less costly than central...as far as purchasing.
If you are trying to cool something, the unit you purchase has to be fit for the purpose you are intending it for. You don't buy a window unity to cool a house. It's strictly for A ROOM.
Ya don't want to try and cool a whole house...the thing would run constantly and burn it up! You get the picture.
Central air. Window units are energy hogs.
It would depend on how big an area you are cooling. Whole house cooling is cheaper with central air, you could close the vents on rooms that didn't need cooling, and keep the doors closed, only cooling the area's tjat you were occupying. Room air conditioners use more eletricity because they have to work harder with the compressor going off and on more often. ALSO YOU WOULD NEED A UNIT IN EACH ROOM YOU WANTED TO COOL.
Additional expenses of room air conditioner's would be buying filters to replace each month in each unit as opposed to buying one filter for the central air unit. Central air would be the most practical and inexpensive to run and upkeep.
In the long run central air-and it will be a good selling point if you ever decide to sell your house. Plus alot of energy companies have budget plans you can get on after one year of service-look into that too if your worried about it being too expensive
Central air will be much cheaper! The window unit has to cool the room from one point unlike Central ac that has many vents from various points around the room. Go for the AC!
a single window unit will be cheaper then central air for an entire house... if you put window units in every room thats another story then in the long run the central unit will be cheaper but its a matter of the size of your home and if there is central heat and what the conversion costs would run
