Remodeling of Basement?
Question:The problem I am having is the pipes that run along the ceiling sweat really bad and it causes me to not be able to put electronics in certain areas or anything that I don't want water damage on. Does anybody have any suggestions to stop the pipes from sweating?
Answers:
The pipes are not sweating. The humidity in any room will always condense on the coldest thing in that room. Wrap them with the insulation. Waterproofing the walls will also help reduce humidity. www.ugl.com/drylok/...
wrap them with insulation
Insulated them with foam pipe wrap.
First of all, you have to determine why the pipes are sweating. Is it because of high humidity in the basement air or is it just minor condensation? Do you have any moisture comming thru the basement walls or floor? Are the basement walls finished? You can try using foam pipe insulation on the pipes that is available at almost any hardware/building supply store or buy/borrow a dehumidifier and run it in the basement.
Foam insulation for pipes. We had the same prob. Once we insulated - things were fine, and we were able to finish with a nice ceiling (not drop ceiling).
