How do I wire my newer thermostat? Wire colors on the thermostat differ from those in the wall?
Question:I've tried and tried, and found several ways to turn the heat on, but that's not much use when it's 90 degrees out! The wiring diagram and the internet were no use.
Answers:
Go to your air handler (furnace) turn it off and open the cabinet. Look for the thermostat wire and see where they are connected on the air handler. They should be labeled R, W, C (or X), Y, G. You may have others, such as W1, W2, Y1 Y2 etc. If you have a Heat Pump, you will also have an O terminal. Whatever they are, write down the color wire that is attached to the screws at each position. With the air handler still off, return to your new T-stat and hook the wires in accordance with your air handler positions. Turn on the air handler and run the T-stat through some tests.
Some T-stats control only specific machines...some are designed to send signals via direct current voltage variations, most are set up for alternating current relay control. If you can, make sure the T-stat you have works with the air handler you have.
Good luck
first of all, you need to let people know, what kind of furnace you have, and what type of thermostat you have, then you will be granted with the proper wiring diagram. white red yellow green on wall t stat from furnace, outside condenser goes on y and c on furnace board. if you have one. if the colors are diffferent, pull the cover off and get a flashlight, and look and the letters, and write down what colors they are using for the low voltage feed. OH ya, turn the power off to the furnace before wiring.
Go to the supplier and ask them
