How to build a mobile base for tether ball?

Question:i bought a tether ball set, but i do not want to set it permanently in the ground. i'm hoping to get a good idea to be able to move it from one point to another, and it be heavy enough not to tip over.

Answers:
An old steel car wheel works well. Just get a big one, like from a pickup truck, 15" or bigger. I've seen lots of people use them to attach a mailbox post to and it should work well for that too.

You could cement the pole in a large bucket or small barrel.
But making it heavy enough to hold the pole good & steady when you using it would make it to heavy to move around easy.

This may sound hard but what I would do is get a piece of PVC just big enough to slide the tether pole inside.

Bury the PVC in the ground about 3ft down. keep the top end of the PVC even with the level of the ground. Find a tin can just big enough to fit over the end of the PVC.(When you are not using it it will keep dirt out of the PVC) You could paint the tin green if you wanted to. Want more spots just repeat.
Oh my gosh does that bring back memories! When I was a kid my dad made the base for our tether ball set out of an old nickel barrel and concrete (much as described by the previous poster). My brothers used to help my sister and me turn it on its side and put it into our old Radio Flier wagon so we could pull it up the street to our friends house. We used to play for hours. My dad used to refer to it as our battering ram.
Ours had enough weight not to flip, but it was a pain to move around (of course my sister and I were like 7 and 9). What about screwing locking casters into a galvanized steel bucket before pouring your cement?
Take a sledge hammer and drive a 2 ft' piece of pipe into the ground where you'll want the tetherball pole. Drive it down until it's just even or below ground level. Then, make your pole out of a piece of galvanised chain link fence pipe. When you want to play, stick the pole into the pipe. When you're done with it, pull the pole out and store it. You could even make the pole out of two pieces, threaded and screwed together.
take an old tire, lay it flat, lay a half dozen or so pieces or re-bar long enough to go across and into the interior of the tire and fill the hole with some concrete that you mix up yourself, like the kind that you buy at lowes or a hardware store, commonly called quick-krete. after you fill put a piece of pipe a little bit larger than your tether pole in the wet concrete. when it sets up you will be able to put yor tether pole in it and play ball. when you are finshed take out the tether pole, stand the tire up on edge and roll it to storage, the rubber tire also has no sharp edges in case you inadvertantly come in contact with it. the size of the tire will determine the amount of weight in you base.
