How do you press flowers using common household items?
Question:and make them look actually nice?
Answers:
Put them between a piece of wax paper and then place them in a thick, hard bound book. Then place additional weight on the book @ 12 -15 pounds. The results will speak for themselves
put them in a heavy book like a dictionary and leave them like that for a couple weeks
use a book a big book and place the flower in the center and close it (harry potter books are thick)
To press flowers at home all you need is paper towel, heavy books, time and flowers. All you do is arrange the flowers in the way that you want them to look when they're done on the paper towels, leave them in/under the heavy books for a couple of days-weeks depending on how thick your flowers are and how dry they were when you put them in.
I've seen kits that do this - but i think that it would be easy to make the actual kit. 1) get two small pieces of wood (that are thin). 2) put the boards on top of each other, and drill a hole around the perimiter every couple of inches. 3) stick a bolt through each hole. 4) take a wingnut, and attatch it to the bolt. 5) put a piece of wax paper on one board. 6) place flower. 7) put more wax paper on top. 8) secure down boards! There, you're done! Hope it works good.
Put them right in the middle of a thick phone book (place the flowers in between two pieces of regular white writing paper before putting them into the book...), then weigh it down with another phone book. It's so easy, takes about 10 days to dry...
You need the big book theory as mentioned above but you also need a paper to absorb the liquids from the flowers. This is very inexpensive and is available at stores like micheals. Alot of people who do this alot for crafting buy pressings block, bookwork just as well.
wax paper or brown paper bags with weight on top of them for about a week
I have always used the big phone book for years and my Mom used it before me. It works great.
there are so many different ways to do this, and of course everyone is going to say theres is best, For all the weddings and proms, and formals, alls we ever did was take your flowers and design them how you want them to lay, take a paper towel and cut out a circle around where the flowers will be as to not let any paper towel touch the flowers , place wax paper on top and below of the arrangment. Use papertowels to absorb moisture, and to help reduce rotting by air. then take and place this in between the pages of a hard cover book, paper backs will not press it evenly it will look warped. we have always used the big world book encyclopedias. place another book on top untill the flower presses enough so the cover is almost level, then place a couple more books for about a week, then your done.. Good Luck
one way is by placing the flower or leaf within the pages of an old telephone directory. Then pile on the directory some heavy items. Leave for a few weeks and bingo - pressed flowers.
then you can do whatever you like with them.
The best way is to put the flowers between paper towels and then build a stack of books. The weight of the books will do the job for you.
