How do you level a shed?
Question:I bought an eight by ten shed from Lowe's a couple of days ago. I found a pretty level piece of land in my back yard to build it. My friends are telling me that I need to level it with cinder blocks, but are unsure how. I don't want it a foot off the ground and really have no idea how to level it if that is truly what I need to do. Please Help.
Answers:
Bury the cinder blocks in the ground starting with the very lowest corner (highest ground level). From that point you can use a "line level" to adjust the height of the remaining blocks. A line level can be purchased at any hardware store for less than $5 and is designed to attach to a string or cord. By attaching one end of the cord to the first cinder block you can stretch it to the next and determine proper burial depth.
You can use bricks dig them into level them and go. Set a string line on all 4 corners get a string level and put the bricks at the same height. I poured a slab for mine. It made it perfect.
get all of the protruding rocks out of the soil. tamper down the soil so its nice and flat lay out the cinder blocks and use onr of those bubble levels the longer the better.
Start by putting 4 stakes in the ground the same dimensions as the shed. Then take a 4" level and a 10' straight-edge(a straight 10' 2 x 4 would work good) this is alot easier to do with 2 people, And then find the highest corner where the shed is going to sit, then you can tell how high you will have to block up under the lower corners, if it's higher than you like, just dig out some of the high corner. Once you have it laid out with the stakes it will be alot easier to see exactly what you have to do.
I would scrape the top soil away and rake out some gravel in a level plane. That is the cheapest solution. The best is to have a concrete slab put in.
Good Luck
Use a big-*** hammer...
Use whichever burying technique you want, but make sure you are a hair lower toward the front so you have good drainage.
Just get some pressure treated lumber and use that to level it up. You can stack the wood to a smaller depth than the cinder blocks. Since the wood is pressure treated it is resistant to rotting.
