Upstairs neighbour thumps about all the time.....?
Question:He has laminate flooring and the noise is unbelievable. What can i do? I don't really want to confront him about this incase he's awkward about it and makes it worse for me. Any advice please?
Answers:
Go upstairs and rip the laminate floorboards up and stick them up his @ss to teach him a lesson. That would do my head in if i had to suffer that.
Move. Or you could tape a letter to his door.
tell him to shut the _ up
Have the landlord say something to him. I have learned to get used to my upstairs neighbor. She stays up all hours pacing around waiting for the dope man to come serve her. :-\
earmuffs. he's busy making babies... i guess.
Have you got anything in your contract about it, you really should have a quiet word with him. Or buy him slippers as a really big hint.
you do need to talk to him, not in an accusatory tone, but matter of fact that there is a lot of downstairs noise, might he have a proposed solution to help it out?
Enlist him as an ally in the cause
He might not realise how much noise filters down to you. Ask him nicely if he could put some rugs down to deaden the noise. It's worth a try.
Learn to live with it, it's one of the hazards of living in an apartment. You have to weigh the pros and cons of upper vs. lower. The upper is quieter with lower heating bills. The lower - no stairs! :)
Gosh that's a hard one, i have that same problem, i just thought of this, when he starts thumping get a stick and start thumping the ceiling to give him a sign too stop
When I was a student I lived in a Flat above an old Jamaican Couple. If we were to noisy she would bang on the cieling with a broom or something similar.
Thats all it took to be honest I could tell by the way she did it if I did'nt shut up I was getting it round the back of the head lol.
You have no choice but to have a quiet word with him - hopefully if you bump into him on the stairs or something. Don't make a big deal of it though, just mention it casually.
You should feel bad for the fella laminate floors?? ew..
Send him a card with maybe just $5 saying "Things will look up."
tell your landlord about the noise it is conflicting with your rights
I would recommend that you just ask him very nicely if he could reduce the noise. No need to be confrontational.
buy him some cushioned slippers for his birthday..if he doesnt take the hint grab his balls & squeeze real hard.
I know how you feel. I have been in the situation several times. It's very annoying yet these people don't realize it.
If these people are nice, they will fully understand your request. Approach them nicely. If it still doesn't work, make a complaint to your landlord.
Make sure you document all your efforts. If you do not get satisfaction, your documentation may provide you an easy exit from your lease. Remember, as a renter, you have a lot of rights.
Is he cute?? you could always use your womanly charm...if not ask him into your house, tie him to a chair nick his keys and then go into his place and stamp your feet hard see how he likes it.he should get the message!
If your upstairs neighbor is merely 'thumping' it's BECAUSE of that laminate flooring ... and you would be perfectly within your rights (and the rights of everyone else in your building) to suggest to your neighbor that he either get carpets or goes around his apartment either barefoot or in 'soft-soled slippers.' If he doesn't 'quiet down' (he may not be aware he's making 'noise' in your apartment) then you should speak to your landlord or your 'building's management' about having a 'more serious' talk with him.
Just ask him nicely to be considerate and keep the noise down. If that doesn't work speak to your landlord
Thump on the ceiling twice as hard! If that doesn't work, play Barry Manilow on your stereo very loud and late at night.
Good Luck
rugs always help..
maybe ur my friends neighbour. he has problems with the woman below playing music loud and doing the same thing..lol
my neighbours make noise, they claim i do.. but they are doing it to try to get a ground floor flat..lol
not moving this is a private house.. next door isn't..lol
i had an upstairs neighbour once, he was doing my head in, so i decided to go upstairs and ask nicely to quieten down, as i was doing night shift and needed the sleep ( i wasnt really), and after that he was great, kept the noise down.
just dont be rude or nasty, go up really cool.
Confront your landlord/manager. What were they (landlord) thinking when they put down that type of flooring? They should have carpeted instead. It's best to let the landlord handle the situation & I hope he/she does.
Contac the Police or go up to him and ask him to stop.Best of luck to you.♥☻
speak to landlord if you have one. speak to council offices if you are renting from them. Speak to the neighbours either side of you and either side of him and see if they have the same problem with noise coming through. You could put a false ceiling in your flat filled with sound deadening material (FIRE RETARDANT!!) to help. You could also write to him saying something along the lines of "I'm not trying to cause any anxiety between you and me here but with your laminate flooring the sound from your moving about is coming straight down amplified into my flat. I was wondering if you could either chat to me about this or could you possibly put some sound deadening material on objects that cause the noises? Little felt pads will help keep your lovely flooring from getting scratched by chair legs and cost only a few pence each." Keep a copy of this letter and post it to him!
If he gets irate or ignores it or in any way becomes antisocial then you have proof of doing the right thing and can report him to either landlord or council. Don't forget that you ALL share common lease agreement clauses so check out what yours is and you may well see what his obligations are to surrounding neighbours!
i would approach him,
regardless of his response..
let him know that you are not wanting to go to the property manager to resolve this issue.
(it is not a good thing to do when the issue can be resolved without the mgmt involvement)
furthermore,
let him know that you are doing this out of common respect for the neighbours....
i'm sure thimgs will be ok,
I was in the same predicament,
although it does go on still(children living up there) it is not nearly half as bad as it was before,
when I see my neighbours now,
they say hello, and appoligise for any"noise"
if this does not work, then consult your property mgmt.
good luck...

Laminate flooring looks nice but is a curse because of this reason!. Always have a word with the neighbour first, if you are nervous then just start by casual conversation and bring the subject in cautiously. Start by saying I am thinking of having laminate flooring put on my floors, I have heard it looks nice but is noisy when you walk on it and it is suseptable to scratches! is it better just to put rugs down on top of it. Alternatively have a word with the council/landlord about it, they will not give your name out.
