How do you fix a hole in a tent?
Question:I have a good size hole in the seam of my tent does anyone know how I would fix it? Thanks

I fixed mine like this; I cut a piece of canvas big enough to go over the hole a good inch. Then I sprayed the patch on both sides with Scotch Gard then super glued it over the hole. Do this while the tent is flat on the ground so you can cover the patch with a brick to make then spray some more Scotch Gard on the patch & tent. The name of it is Scotch Gard and the other is Silicone Water Guard; both sell at Wal Mart in the sporting goods dept. Hope this helps.

You can actually buy patches for tents at an outdoors store. You can also try places like Walmart, K-mart. And there really easy to patch on.

All the above may work but I would not give any advice without knowing exactly what the tent material is, which seam is split, whether the split was due to accidental cutting, bad packing, stress or burning,how you use the tent, and how skilled you are with DIY projects. I suggest that you go to local shop that specializes in backpacking equipment and get someone there to help you. It won't be the first hole in a tent they have seen. I am in NC near Va and have camped for decades. If you were near me I would be happy to help. Maybe someone like me is close to you?
If you don't want to follow my longer advice then: stitch a like piece of material on all sides around the hole with the overlap on the outside and seal with the appropriate sealer for your tent material, let this cure several days and do not fold, cover the whole area with a liberal amount (1/32 thick) of clear silicone and slap enough duct tape on that to cover the hole and the outside of the patch. Let cure for days before packing and be certain to not fold across that area ever. Sleep dry and in peace. Good luck.
