Is there anything you can use to clear the shower drain in a motor home?
Question:WE have been told we cant use anything in a motor home, as it ruins the pipes. Tho we were told using baking soda and vinegar would help and be ok. Tried it, and it helped only a little. Still hair in the drain, and cant get it to break lose. ANy ideas of something safe to use that will work to open this drain up? True advise only too, no jokers please. Dont want to do damage to the drains.
Answers:
Try pouring black coffee down the drain. How long is the drain pipe? Can you tell if the clog is in the trap or beyond it? Perhaps you should get a soft wire hanger and push it through the pipe...you may need to open the pipe at the trap to do this.
Pour apple cider vinegar down, drain is clear fast.
This is safe for all drains, natural.
If the vinegar does not work, take a pair of needle-nose pliers and use them to grab the hair from the drain. Most hair accumulates on the small cross member inside and is usually accessible.
If worse comes to worse, somebody will have to crawl underneath your home and remove the drain to clean it. I hope the vinegar and/or pliers work!
OK there are many ways to fix this.
1. hardware stores have these barbed 3 foot sticks that when pushed down a drain and pulled back they will grab all hair and other things on their way back up.
2. 3-6 foot length of "speedometer cable" used as a snake on the end of a drill will go down a grating and rattle the garbage enough for you to flush it through.
3. air blast plungers will push stopped up drains either to flow or apart depending of force used, START LOW.
4. Boiling hot water will loosen some sludge and push it through.
5. some caustics and mild acids will eat away at what ever is slowing a drain and maybe pass it to the end
if its a physical block like hair you gotta do it the hard way just like in the house. get the ol' snake out and start diggin.
but hot vinegar once a month also would be good for keeping the gunk down to a minimum
The pipes in a motor home are no different than those in a normal home. Do not use any heavy acid drain clearer. Regular drain stuff (draino, liquid plumber etc) are fine. Look in your local hardware or home center for any that are hair specific. Also once you get the clos cleared, regular use is advised.
peroxide might help because it will cause the hair to weaken and become brittle enough to deteriorate. I use it sometimes in my shower drain and it seems to help.
Hello,
Try the tool mentioned in my reply to "How to unclog a bathroom sink?"
thick bleach pour down shower drain it breaks the hair up leave for a few hours then run water and wow it works .
use a small snake to clean the drain out...yake the cap off the drain part only either it is siver or brass and then use the snake put it down the drain and use a circular motion and when it gets hard to do pull it out and clean the end of the snake off and do it again tell you don't get no more hair
Drano has come up with a jell form product and is very effective in situations like the one you have described.
I used it so I know.
But if it's a much more critical situation, a rotor Rutter (snake) will do the job without a question. Both systems should work!
Guaranteed. God Bless.
