Okay, i know this trick for roaches. but it uses boric acid, and one user said boric acid, so I'm thinking it would probably work for ants too. Also, I know that what boric acid does is dehydrate the body of the insect that eats it, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Here's what you do. Mix 1 part boric acid powder with 1 part flour and enough water to make a dough about the same texture as playdough. Roll it into little balls and place them anywhere you have seen ants. Make sure no animals eat it though. The ants will eat it and die, and bonus, they will probably take some back to their queen, which is great, cause the only way to get rid of ants completely is to kill the queen.
Boric Acid
Have you tried Terro inside and out they make it for both, go to local Ace Hardware to get it but works
Sprinkle chili poweder in areas with ants.
powdered boric acid will keep them from coming in.
I had good luck with Terro. Workers carry it back to the nest and killzemall
This isn't the answer you probably want to hear, but it worked for me.
The spring after we moved into our certified pre-owned home 7 years ago, we noticed some carpenter ants in the kitchen. I'm the type of do-it-yourself-er that doesn't want to pay for a service I can research on the internet and perform myself. So I did. I payed about $75 for a box full of different toxic chemicals sure to slay our little friends. One month and $75 later, we still had carpenter ants... only worse than before.
I called Orkin and Terminix. Both sat at my kitchen table scaring the pants off my wife and I. They told us stories of how these ants will destroy our house. They separately both recommended a very expensive and invasive process of drilling holes into every stud cavity of each exterior wall (yes, this would be performed from the inside of the house). Every week for a few months they would pump some chemicals into our walls and rid our house of ants and large sums of money.
We passed on this idea.
Soon after we called a local exterminator. He arrived at our house, identifed the ants in 30 seconds, and then we didn't see him for another hour. I found him under our deck with a flashlight. Since we didn't sign a contract yet, I thought it was weird that he was working so hard. He came back inside about 90 minutes after he arrived and told us we didn't have a bad problem. He recommended their standard preventative exterior treatment 4 times per year at a cost of $200 annually.
We haven't seen an ant since. Yes, this DIYerI still feels defeated.

one day, when we found ants in bathroom, my grandma gave me strange advise, she said it's very old remedy - make mix of dry yeast, water and little bit of honey or sugar - it needs to be consistency of sour cream. Then put fresh mix on ant' roads. And check it often, this mix has to be always wet .
Main idea - ants bring this tasty food to ant queen and she'll die :) (Maybe from laughter?)
I really don't know it can be that something else helped, but in 2 days of this treatment ants really disappeared. So try, why not. It's not expensive, good luck!
I put mothballs in a plastic freezer bag. Crunch them up with a hammer. Pour the powder where you need it. Works every time..on almost ANY critter.
you need to try those fume things. you just place them in the middle of each room or just certain rooms, then push the top button down and the fumes spray out and kill everything in sight. you have to leave your house for like 8 hours after starting the spray, but it works.
springle with carling black label it will take ants to where they have never been before out cold and drunk easy to round up and will; not return
like some of the other posters have state Boric Acid mixed with sugar and Terro. I have used both successfully. If the ants are really bad you may need an exterminator.
I used Cream of Wheat. Sprinkle the dry Cream of Wheat where your ants are coming in and in your yard if you see ant hills. Non-toxic to pets. Don't water your lawn for a few days or if it should rain you would need to do it again.
The premise is they eat the dry Cream of Wheat and it swells.
I don't get ants.
Get help from pets control company. When they spray in and out of the house, don't clean immediately. clean after at least 24 hours. also try and seal every hole around the house inside and outside.
I have tried Amdro and put a little bit of powdered sugar in the amount I was using for that particular treatment. It seemed to work.
The other day I received an email that contained lots of ideas on solving everyday kinds of problems. I've copied and pasted the idea below.
Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it,
take it home, & can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially. if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
I haven't tried it, so I don't know if it works. Good luck!
Hi... Professional Pest Controller here.
1.) Laugh at people who suggest putting ANY kind of food down to repel ants. Here's a clue: THEY'RE ANTS they EAT FOOD. They don't swallow what they pick up. They feed it to their larvae which pre-digest it and feed it back to the adults. So cayenne pepper, salt, sugar and anything else that is in the cupboard is only FEEDING THE FREAKIN' ANTS!
Household ants come in a variety of types. Mainly you'll get carpenter ants, pavement ants (which covers a couple hundred species) and pharoah ants. C/A eat just about anything and even pro baits don't work well. The pavement ants will respond to the Terro that has been suggested or you can buy pharmaceutical grade boric acid and mix it up with something yummy like apple jelly, sugar water, butter, whatever. Some ants eat grease and some like sweet stuff... so choose accordingly. The problem is if you run up against pharoah ants. These suckers have multiple queens and can have multiple nests. If you manage to kill off their queen they just sprout another one. They are very very tiny and like, for some reason, to live in electrical receptacles. If you find these ants, call a pro because you will, and I do mean WILL, make the problem worse.
Best of luck,
Bugs
I would strongly recomend that you keep close tabs on your food waste. Bag everything up and tie it off so it is air tight. Ants are insects they are only insects they basically just eat and breed. If there is no longer a source of food in the house it is far less apealing for them to be in there. After all there nest is outside somewhere in the ground. Other then that if you wish to exterminate the ants from your property entirly the tricks with boric acid are what will work.
