I have a mahogany table, the top is marked. How can I get the scratches of and polish it up.?

Question:

Answers:
If the scratches are deep, use the meat of a walnut to rub over the scratches, to use as a wood filler. Then buy a bottle of Old English scratch cover polish & that should do the trick for you. You may have to apply it second time.

lots of products out there ...
but the natural way is with a nut ... the oil will put the colour back in and seal the wood..!!...just crack it and rub it in...
if its real mahogany and not a veneer then try this.

use wire wool, thats like a brillo pad without the soap... youll have to do the whole table for it to look good, but all you have to do is rub with the grain, it'll remove all the laquer and leave a perfectly smooth surface...

and it requires lots of elbow grease
Be very careful if it is an antique. Messing with it might decrease the value. Are the scratches only in the finish or down to the wood?
Buy some varnish remover and 'pickle' off the old, lightly sand the surface only allowing the sand paper to move along the grain, (No ortbital sanders) One stroke across the grain will take hours to lift out. Get rid of all the dust and give the table several coats of a good quality varnish, rubbing down after each coat, again following the direction rule. A good tip is to use fine sandpaper and don't throw it away, it keeps slowly clogging up with varnish making it softer in use and not too abrasive. When the job is finished buy a good long stout stick and use it to smash onto the hands of anyone who even thinks of putting a hot / cold / spiritous glass or cup onto the surface you have just lost a couple of pounds in neat sweat over. Have Fun.......
i think i was told vinegar but im not sure
