Window Insulation to keep the heat from the sun out.?

Question:The front room of my office has many windows, none of which are protected in any way from the sun. That area gets VERY warm, and even with airconditioning on, I can't cool it down.

I guess options are blinds (what is the best insulating type) and/or some type of insulating plastic to stick on the windows to reduce the outside sun and heat from coming in.

What ideas are there that are going to be helpful?

I noted that the insulating plastic placed on the windows is helpful to protect from heat loss in cold weather. What I need is to keep the outside heat out..

Answers:
I currently live in Arizona and I can say that all the plastic films and sun screens that make claims to reduce heat and UV anywhere from 10% to 90% do not work. I have tried over 20 different types of films and screens with no noticeable difference. What I found works the best were heavy lined drapes. They were the only thing that worked dramatically. Hope this helps.

The self sticking plastic sheet by 3-M is good and will do both.
You can apply it yourself but keep .25 inch inside window all the way around.
the best i can say is that a celing fan may be helpful.

also i know that dark colors are supposed to absorb the sun and cause more heat where as silver and chrome tend to reflect heat.

thermo pane windows may be very helpfull filled with argon gas.

try using blown insulating plastic panels 1 " thick that can be used and then taken down and hidden.

i think your supposed to have a 20 degree air split from outside your house and inside your house at the regisiter. try cleaning your filter , then your coil inside and out side. try keeping all the blinds in your house closed.
in a room like that air circulation seems mandatory. just the movement of air has a cooling effect on things. check the pressure of freon in your system
