Does anyone know how to remove the sticky residue left on a bottle after the label is peeled off?
Question:a: a glass bottle
b: a plastic bottle
so often bottles purchased with contents (vs new, empty ones) make great storage ... but how to take off the old adhesive which is quite sticky ...
thank you
Answers:
residue on GLASS:
Soak a cotton ball or q-tip with rubbing alcohol and apply it to the sticker. Let the alcohol soak on the sticker for about five minutes and then rub it with a dry cloth. The sticker and residue should be gone.
WD-40 has also been proven to remove sticker goo. Apply the WD-40 to the sticker goo and leave it on for just a few minutes. As WD-40 is somewhat oily and may leave a residue of its own, do not use it on a surface that you plan to paint later.
residue on PLASTIC:
Cooking oil is the perfect solution to remove sticky goo from a plastic surface. Remove as much of the sticker as possible and then saturate the residue with a bit of cooking oil. Let the oil soak down into the sticker and then immerse the plastic in water. The sticker should just wipe away. A second coating of oil may be necessary to completely remove the goo from the plastic surface.
Use some nail varnish remover
Vinegar and lemon juice i think
soak in warm water or use nail varnish remover or use petrol or buy "Sticky Stuff Remover" from a DIY shop.
.
I usually soak the bottle in warm soapy water for an hour or so. After that it comes off pretty easily. Plastic bottles are more troublesome though!
goo gone, or soak it hot water and scrape it off
I've found WD40 works wonders. Or there is a citrus based cleaner called Goo Gone that works well too.
surgical spirit or plaster remover from the pharmacy
hot water & soap leave in soak for 10min.
Goo-Gone, Goof Off, Goop, they will all take out the sticky. They will work great on glass, may want to test them on plastic. The other option is 409 and elbow grease.
Good Luck.
Polish remover for the glass, and dish soap for the plastic.
i use this stuff called goo gone, it works great and its not that expensive either. smells like oranges too!

get a sponge with soapy water on it, or just wet the bottle and scrub it, easy as that lol

you can buy some label remover from kleeneze
there is this perfect stuff called Goo Be Gone and it works on anything like that!
Use a solvent like rubbing alcohol. There are also products in the stationery aisle of most drugstores that can do this.
I heard olive oil spray or mayonaisse works well
Pledge furniture polish or sticky stuff remover
WD40 every time!
You can buy stuff called "goo gone" or things like it but they don't always work so well and you might need to wear gloves to use them. Try putting hot water in the sink with dawn dish soap and soak them for a couple hours. I soak spaghetti jars to use for canning fruit and this works pretty well (but don't let the water get cold).
You can get a wet paper towel and rub it on there. You can also buy something called "GooGone" and rub it on there. GooGone is sold at Walmart, or other places, cause that's where I got it. Or if you want the hard way, use your nails!
Nail varnish remover, meths or there is a special stuff you can buy
WD40 works great;
run it through the dishwasher on pots and pans setting. If there is still some of the glue or sticky residue use Goop Off which is found at most office supply stores and large grocery stores. Zippo lighter fluid works the same but there is something extra in Goop Off which makes it more effective.
Acetone (nail polish remover) will work on the glass bottle but will melt the plastic one.
On the plastic one, try using simple rubbing alcohol and some cotton balls. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it doesn't.
Goo Gone
i use warm soapy water and a bit of elbow grease
white spirits
WD40...that stuff is amazing.has like over 1000 uses!!!
WATER preferably warm & soap[y
Goo gone works best.
