The only difference between these two is the pattern in the wood. The vertical cut causes the pattern to be in long pieces and the horizontal cut makes patterns of random short lines. It is a personal visual preference. Both will wear extremely well and most of these bamboo floors have a 25 year wear warranty.
It refers to how the plies are oriented. Say a 1/2" x 3" board each strand is 1/4" wide has all the laminated strands vertical. This would mean each board would have 24 1/4" x 1/2" strands looking at the end of the board from left to right, while horizontal would have 2 strands of 1/4" strands from top to bottom all 3" wide. First, compare with two structure (vertical and horizontal), horizontal is easier to conceal the defects of bamboo strips, because there are three layers, you will not see the defects between layers. Normally manucaturers use discolor strips in middle and bottom layers, this is acceptable, but if any strip inside is not planed "out", that means some cupped parts remaindered on strips (due to bamboo is a hollow grass), the quality of agglutination will be reduced. Second, based on bamboo's property, vertical is more stable than horizontal, you will easy find the different by checking the beeline of floor plank, almost all horizontal pieces have a little bit bend, but vertical are all keep straight, moreover vertical has less shrinkage or expansion in width of floor plank than horizontal. The flexural strength and surface rigidity of horizontal is better than vertical.
