Assuming your panel voltage is 120/240v, single phase, or 120/208, 3-phase, (Voltages are nominal) You need a 2-pole breaker, two hots, one ground. Keep the color code correct in your panel. Single phase is Black, Red. 3-phase should be Black, Red, Blue. You have to use two different phases. In the 3-phase panel it can be Black, Red. Red, Blue. Or Blue, Black. In the single phase it will be Black, Red. Or Red, Black.
