Shower doors?
Question:Was just quoted 1400.00 for frameless glass sliders for my tub/shower from a shower door company.. Is it me or is this a ridiculous number? There are some at lowes for 280.00 made by kohler... These guys just trying to screw me?

The 1400 is tooooo costly. They are trying to take a ride of you. Also 280 is little cheaper side quality may be bad.
Why don't you look for some established shop and find out the exact quality and price.

That seems way to high!! Granted the 280$ set you have to install yourself but still, 1400 is a lot.
Oh yeah, thats nuts. I work at Home Depot and in the kitchen & bath dep't so shower doors are one of my specialties. Those kind of prices are for when you are getting a door custom made, even than, thats steep. If you have a standard size 54"-60" opening, you can buy a frameless for as low as $250 for a chrome or nickel finish with clear glass. And yes, it is good quality. Kohler is a very reputable manufacturer and make good products. That is the very definition of a rip-off. Tell them to cram it and run up to HD or Lowes.

Was the quote for labor and materials, or just materials only?? Remember, labor and installation is fairly pricey nowadays. The material price that you got at Lowes is for the material only, not the actual installation and removal of the existing materials. Unless you have some existing problems that need to be addressed before the new system can be installed, the price you were quoted does seem fairly high. I would estimate $800 - $900 for materials, labor and removal providing that there are no pre-existing conditions that need to be attended to prior to installation.

It depends on what you want. I can almost guarantee that the quality of the door and the thickness of the glass that the shower door company is going to use is thicker and far better quality than you would get from Home Depot. Most shower door companies use at least 3/8" tempered glass. Just make sure that you compare apples to apples. I would suggest getting at least on more quote from another shower door company.
