How to cut glass?
Question:How can I cut glass? I have a super large window...and I want to make a hole in it so I can pass the air conditioner tube...
tell me what can I do, THANKS A LOT
Answers:
i asume you have a portable airconditioner that has the tube you put in a small open window, but you don't have a convinent small window. it would be easier to cut a hole in the wall and install a dryer vent ( like where the air comes out of your house from your clothes dryer ). I wouldn't try to cut the glass it might even be tempered glass that can't be cut without breaking the whole pane.
its better to get someone to do it for you... or you could end up with something wrong and might have to buy a whole new window.
This is no job for amateurs, have some one in the trade do it for you.
They sell glass drill bits, just bought a set. Use lots of lube (cutting oil) and be gentle.
buy a glass cutter!it frequently used in movies!
trust me dont do this your self you might really hurt your self. if you what to do a project like this you should go to your local hard ware store. then they can come over and do the job for you. plus it does not cost as much as if you did it a lone.
best of luck. ttyl :D
Don't even try it. Call a glass company and have them view the window and explain if it can be cut down or needs to be replaced.
Wouldn't attempt this. The first thing you'd have to do is pull the glass from the frame and that's a job depending on how super large the window is. What's an AC tube? I've been in AC for decades, don't know that term.
ok
dont buy a glass cutter- for a circle you will need a drill bit. (***NOTE- if your window is tempered glass, it will shatter. there should be a printed insignia saying it is tempered if so)
Back to the drill bit. Yes, cutting oil will work, it needs to be wet and cooled the entire time, circulating water is best. Its really tricky. If someone came to me at my store I would recommend they drill a hole in the window sill, the wooden frame of the window. The hole in the large window will make the window unstable and more likely to break. And then you will have to replace the whole window. With a hole in the wood at least you cat wood putty it back when you need, or repair a number of other ways. I get what you are trying to do - but I would have to advise against it.
