Would it be safe to use steamer to clean old glass chandelier?Has paint specks on it as well as general dust a

Question:

Steamer won't take off paint, a fingernail may be the way to go there. Then I would clean with a spray bottle of water and paper towels.

its o.k to use a steam cleaner on special glass like the glass on your oven or the glass shelves in your fridge cause they are strengthened to withstand the heat of the oven and the weight of all your food but i wouldn't use a steam cleaner on a chandelier, i would use white spirits on a rag to wipe them down and remove the dust and paint and then use some white vinegar on a rag to leave them really really shinny!!

god luck and happy cleaning!!
No do not use that. Only use vinegar and water and the chandelier will sparkle clean.
Use vinegar and water yes; but also wipe each glass piece with newspaper.

This will really make it sparkle!
Depending on the glass involved, a steam cleaner could damage it.

If you want to clean it while it hangs, then use any glass cleaner and lint-free cloth (or newspaper, but newspaper gets your hands dirty and you could transfer that dirt onto your newly cleaned chandelier). Use your fingernail or a razor blade to clean paint spots, but be sure not to scratch the glass with a razor blade.

The best way to clean a chandelier would be to take it down and clean all the parts individually. You could use dishwashing liquid for this. If you have taken it down, then use a gentle pipe cleaner and dishwashing liquid to clean the insides of the arms. (This is often the hardest part to clean, and any dirt in there shows up.)

DO NOT electrify you chandelier if there is any liquid on it. This could short circut the chandelier or your house, cause a fire, or injure you. If you have taken the chandelier down, make sure that all parts have dried completely before you hang it again. If you are cleaning it while it is hanging, remember to have it turned off at the switch and the breaker and do not turn it back on until it is completely dry. (Sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised at how many people clean a chandelier while it is turned on.)

Whichever method you use, just remember to dry it completely to make sure you don't replace with dust and dirt with water spots.
