What tool do I use to undercut a stone hearth? I'm laying wood and would like it to go underneath.?
Question:It's 3/8" engineered wood.
Answers:
Don't do it! You could weakened the mortar in the rest of the hearth. Cut your flooring close to fit and use some type type of trim (wood or tile) to fill any voids and even out your cuts.
when you find the answer to that one let me know so I can buy it....
thats a problem I have when laying laminate or hardwood usually I find a trim peice or quarter round to use their then if I have to,I fill in with wood putty or caulk.....
A railroad spike and a two pound hammer with saftey goggles chipping small areas is slow but doable. Or a 4" hand grinder with a masonary cutter will work. Tack down a 1x4 about 3/4" from stone and use it as a guide. Just be sure don't stay in one spot cutting as the stone will possibly crack.
put a diamond blade on a 4 1/2 in. angle grinder. you wont have to go that deep to show the wood going under.
