How can I cut pvc vertically?

Question:I want to use the pvc like a 'C' channel support so I need to cut it vertically. Any suggestions?

Answers:
You can use a table saw set shallow to cut a single (not all the way thru) slot.
You can slice off one side for a larger opening (like widening the open edges on the letter "C").
You most important problem will be preventing rotation while making your cut.
1- 1/2" PVC is the most difficult.
2- 3/4" is easier.
3- 1" and above is a piece of cake.
Good Luck ! ! !

Depending on the length of PVC, you could use a hacksaw on a short piece, or use a dremel with a cutting wheel on longer sections. If a dremel isn't available, you could use a circular saw with a thin "fine cut" blade.
use a laser site to mark your cut. or a chalk line might work. you would need a steady saw, like used for cutting lumber and such, not a hand saw. good luck to you.
Depending on how long the piece is, you can either use a hand saw or a table saw with a fine blade.
I would get a chalkline and snap a straight like right down the center of it. Then maybe go over that snapped line with a marker. Then rip it on a table saw for the straightest cut. Just gotta make sure you try not to twist the pipe while you cut..I said i would go over the chalkline with the marker cause the table saw will most likely blow the chalk line off while ripping it...then you dont know if your twisting the pvc while cutting it
how long of a piece do you need?
You could use a table saw with a guide on one side and a feather board (My best option.)
Band saw with a similar set up
you could use a radial arm saw
you could use a chop saw if you only need a short piece of less than 6 inches
a jig saw is probably next then a saws-all (reciprocating saw..
Note for any hand tools you will most likely need another helper to keep it stable and you safer.
lastly you can use a hand saw down the axis but that is much more error prone.
IN table saw.
The easiest and fastest way to cut pvc vertically is to use a band saw if it is a long piece of pvc. For a short piece you can try a hack saw.
You can make a jig on a bandsaw or table saw as wide as the PVC...line it up to your center point and cut..it will be perfectly straight..quick and easy.
It is very difficult to cut it with a circular saw because the pipe tries to close back up behind the blade causing it to bind. Your best option is to use a band saw. It will cut both sides in one step. Also the blade on a band saw is not as thick therefore will not bind the blade and it will produce a much finer cut.
