My kitchen was plasterered 6 weeks ago. One wall needed a full plaster with a half board on the reverse.?
Question:All the other walls that were skimmed are now dry but the one with full plaster has patchy darker areas and on the back, above where the half board must be there is about a three inch deep darker area with salts, and higher up where the plaster skims off there are tiny bubbles? Could there be damp in the wall? What should I do?
Answers:
get the plasterer back in, first thing that gets done is an inspection of the walls and surrounding areas. especially under the eaves. off the clock i:e a homer your screwed, but if he is a true tradesman he should fix his bollocks for nothing.
Speak to the guy who plastered it.
you got damp coming in the wall
If you mean by "full plaster" two coats of sand/cement on to brickwork.Salts is a possible sign of damp but it could also mean that it is drying out. Add some heater to dry it out and keep the area ventilated. If it doesnt dry out the possible cause might be that the wrong material possibly bonding was used instead of sand/cement with a water proofer. You may need to get a damp specialist to look at it.The wall may need injecting to stop rising damp.WITHOUT ME PHYSICALLY SEEING IT i cant be certain.. good luck..
when a wall is back to bare brick work and then replastred using wet backing plaster, this can take up to six weeks to cure and dry properley, so dont worry too much about the dark patches or the salts, what is slightly worrying though is the bubbles you mentioned, this could just be the case that the wall hasnt been trowelled properley, if this is the case then a light sand should take care of these. If i was you i would give your plasterer a call and just get him to come take a look if hes a decent plastererhe will come round have a look and advise you of what the situation is , hope this has helped
