HOME IRRIGATION Why is Backflow Preventer leaking water out of bell?


Question:Just installed a backflow preventer FEBCO 765
Haven't hooked the lines to any valves yet but tested the lines for leaks.
Water is flow out of the bell housing.

Is this normal. It won't stop.?

PVB is approx 8' from water supply. I have 2 mains t'd off wst is approx 80' 2nd is apporx 40' they are not hooked into anything yet.

Answers:
Install your stops on the end of your lines, the double swing check valves are not closing due to lack of back pressure. Run the lines, open and close the valves a few times and it should quit leaking.


That is both a backflow preventer and a pressure vacuum breaker device.

If you installed it correctly (i.e. not backwards), then it's possible that a seal, O-ring, etc, is missing or incorrectly installed at the factory.
