We are tiling a shower and the builder left a gap(around 2inchs) between the blueboard and shower floor.?
Question:What can be done to fill this space, so the wall can be tiled?
Answers:
Sounds like contractor thought you were going to install some type of premade shower floor or shower pan and brought wall down to meet the not yet installed shower floor. The gap is an easy fix though, the wall board is most likely 1/2 inch thick. I would use a product called durock or hardiboard to fill in the gap that way your tiles will have something to adhere to. Whatever you do, dont leave the gap there and tile over it with large tiles. Your just asking for trouble by doing that.
Contact the builder there should not be that big a gap and they need to correct it. Second if there is blueboard on the wall it also needs to be replaced with at least green board but preferably cement board which is the best for installing tile especially in a shower. Hope this helps.
John s is right they screwed up
Fill the gap with Durock (or some other type of cement board). It is much more durable than blue board. I assume that these guys already have their money and it will be nearly impossible to get them to fix it, sorry.
I'm just curious but did the contractor "dry poor" a floor for the shower? Durock is the best for shower walls, Is there a shower pan installed " rubber type membrane coming up the wall". If you have more questions e-mail "blossomhandyman@yahoo.com".
if there's a membrane behind the pan and up the wall a bit, and the tiles you use are large, just let them hang over; or else you will have to fill that space with a like backer-board if the studs show..or cut the concrete board back up 10" and refill with 12" backer-board and tile over.
where there's a will, there's a way.
last but not least, call in the contractor and repair the mistakes...its his reputation and bond that's on the line,
