Cast iron bathtub or stainless steel.is one better than other?
Question:
Answers:
Personal preference.
A cast iron tub weighs about 500 lb. Most people don't use them any more and i never saw a stainless steel bath tub only sinks Don't buy plastic tub no good,
Buy a steel tub cast iron and steel aren't the same
Many bathtubs are still cast alloy, then fired with enamel over. Certainly they are still an industry standard, and I agree with one answer stating do not do plastic or fiberglass composite.
I've also never seen a Stainless steel bathtub, but if you have a link I'd at least look. It seems TRENDY to me, no offense, and would need similar care as any other tub. Glazed enamel would probably be easier to keep, though stainless would last as long. I probably wouldn't go that route, but it seems to be the way of designer modes currently in so many other areas.

Cast iron tubs are heavy and help retain temp of water better then other types. They do make steal tubs but they are glazed. I have installed plenty of stainless steel sinks, but have never seen a stainless steel bathtub. Plastic, acrylic and fiberglass tubs are hard to clean and I don't recommend them.
Figured out the answer to that question myself about 6 months ago. Due to an unexpected leak did a complete bathroom overhaul... the existing cast iron tub was worn, so was a good time to replace it. Was going to replace with cast iron, but soon figured out that the house must have been built around the existing tub - had to break it up with a saw and sledgehammer to get it out, and no way would a new one fit through our bathroom doorway! Cast iron will last decades for sure if you can get one in... but you will need lots of help as is VERY heavy!
Note: if you're taking out an old cast iron tub... you can probably recycle it at a metal recycling center... but don't expect much $$$ in return. I think we got about $10. But better than the cost of disposing of it at our transfer station!
