Is there anything that I can do to remove hair from a shower drain?

Question:I just moved and there is a lot of hair in the drain from the girl who used to live here. Is there a way that I can take it out? I tried just pulling it out with some kleenix, but there is so much of it that I couldn't. There is also a bar of soap that is stuck in there is there any way to get these things out. Is it possible to take the drain out?
Thanks

Go to Lowes, and purchase a tool called a "Zip-it". It costs about $3, and is very easy to use. Stick the pointed end in the drain, and pull out the hair, it's that simple! Good luck!

try a pair of needle nose pliers, it will be gross.
You can use a sink snake that you can rent from any hardware store or tool rental. Since you just moved in, I would have the landlord attend to that matter the first time.
eww..that's a dirty girl...u might want to pour some hot boiling water it always works for my sink when it clogs up i'm sure it will work for the drain too
Go to the hardware store and pick yourself up a little snake(nothing expensive) a small snake will do the trick(maybe a 20 footer) Don't get the ones that attach to a drill, they don't work worth a sh*t.The snake will come in handy years later because Drano will only work for a short time(if that ) and that's a waste of money to begin with.Good luck!
EWE A PAIR OF PLIERS SHOULD DO THE JOB, IT WILL BE GROSS THOUGH.
GOOD LUCK.
You didn't ask this, but after you clear the drain, put the toe of a nylon in the drain and replace the silver hole-thing. Occasionally you will need to remove the stocking, throw it out, put a new one there and wahlah!
Put about 1/2 inch of hot water in there and plunge it with a pluger. Also for the hair you can get a wire hanger and bend it like a hook and stick it down the drain and pull it out. It should work but its going to be gross, so you might wanna put on some rubber gloves.
Hope this helps, and I hope you get everything out.
The only way is to pull it out manually; perhaps using a hooked coat-hanger or something similar. A plumber's snake can be used to clear out any other obstructions. The only way to access a tub or shower drain is from below. It's something best left to a plumber.

However, once its clean, find yourself some steel wool or a copper pot scrubber and place it in you're shower drain. (Make sure its bigger than the size of the drainpipe) This will allow the water to drain but will catch all the hair. Then you simply have to change it every two weeks. And the hair in the metal won't be wet and gross.

This will only work for a unit dedicated solely for showers. The plunger drain stop in bathtubs makes it difficult to use this method.
get a wire door stop, take off the plastic cap on the end. get 2 pliers(1 pair of pliers and a vice would work easier)

pull the 2 ends untill you have a wire squiggle thing about 2 feet long. this acts like a snake.

put in drain and turn and pull
Use a wire coat hanger to remove the hair. To dissolve the bar of soap try using some boiling water. Just pour it carefully so you don't burn yourself.
Also as alot of have answered this question..once the problem is fixed for monthly maintenence I pour boiling vinegar and baking soda solution down each of my drains to prevent this in the future
