I just planted grass in my Lawn Now what?
Question:I planted the seed 4 to 5 weeks ago and I was curious if I can use fertalizer yet or if it is to early. It is coming in nice but very patchy and lots of weeds. Any suggestions?

I would use rabbit pellets, as in food. It is made of alfalfa which is a good fertilizer used in organic gardening. It will not hurt the new grass, while supplying plenty of nutrients for the grass. Just spread them out and water and they will start to melt into the soil.
As for the weeds, I would hand pull what I could, and use a weed and feed in spring. You may have to reseed in fall some. The worst time to plant seed is right before the heat of summer. The grass doesn't have time to get deep roots so many die. If you plant in fall they have 8 or 9 months to get good deep roots. Even where it freezes, the roots will grow until it is froze solid.
Water, lot's of water. If it's coming in patchy, re-seed and water twice a day. No fertalizer required. After it is established ( about 3 months ) then you can fertalize with lawn fertalizer. If it just won't come on, try some miracle grow in the sprayer that you screw on the water hose.
you can fertilize if you use an organic fertilizer since they do not Bern as the grass get stronger it will choke out the weeds spread a thin layer one half inch of a good compose and water often
you can use weed and feed but use a good one like scotts and dont over feed it. The patchy area,s..if you take a little more seed ,drop it there and make sure you cover it with straw it will come in alot quicker and fuller. always when seeding a lawn cover it with straw this helps to hold in moister and keeps the hot sun from burning it up. It also keeps birds from eating it and hard rains from washing it away. trust me you,ll see a big difference in covering it with straw ,it will come in alot better.
Just water it and wait until you cut it several times
