you need a few good people to help ya but the way to start is take all framing off then use a saws all and cut around the window frame , take out the window , move furniture in and replace window with new screws and then use foamit to insulate the window again, then replace the trim, it's not a hard job but time consuming
you need to very carefully remove the beads from the inside of your frames, this will release your shutters [window frames] at the inside bottom both sides of the main frame there is a strip that you can pull out to reaveal the sash weights. undo the knots and remove your sash windows. job done its easy.
Wouldn't remove entire window as Jim suggests. Removing the top and bottom sashes only should suffice.
I have 17 sash windows in my Victorian house and have restored most of them, so know how they work - amazing things when you investigate how they are put together!! Have a look at a good DIY manual before you dismantle. You will save yourself a lot of bother when you put them back together if you remember to wedge the sashcords in the pulley when you detach them from the sliding sashes - otherwise they will disappear into the weight compartment and it's a very fiddly job getting in to retrieve them. Wrap cord round screwdriver or something and it will wedge against pulley. Good luck.
