Brick paver patio installation help!?
Question:Over the winter we had water come in through my brick patio into my basement. This happened because the patio was not pitched properly. The condo association came out and ripped up the paver's and repaired the leak. They will not pay to put it back together and we can't afford to hire someone. It was a circular pattern. My neighbor has the same patio so I can look at his for the design. I just don't know where to start. Do I have to do anything before I start laying the pavers down? It is packed with dirt already. HELP!
Answers:
First you will need to fix the pitch, make sure it will drain water away from home, repack the dirt. Now you should get some sand to help level bricks. Tools you will need 1 level, 2 rubber mallet, 3 tape measure, 4 knee pads. place brick following neighbor lay out, measure, level, hit with mallet to set. when your done setting bricks pure sand on top and broom sand it to cracks to lock bricks in.
i've not done pavers.yet... but ck out ... http://www.diynetwork.com. they have lots of videos etc to show u how to prepare & lay pavers.
have you tryed dyi.net, all i know is that you need a big vibrator to vibrate the stones while you spread sand over the cracks to compact it in
I know that just dirt is not enough! Your first layer should be at least 4 to 5 inches of gravel. On top of the gravel you can use a sand base, and I'm not sure of the depth. You then need to pack the sand tight. After, you can insert pavers tapping each lightly with a rubber mallet until embedded in the sand. Pour enough sand on the finished product and sweep across until all of the cracks are filled. This style of patio is very durable. Lowes or Home Depot have great books on this style and great instructions as well.
