I'm looking for a ceiling fan that plugs into a wall outlet, as opposed to one that is wired into my electric?
Question:I live in an apartment and would rather not screw around with the electrical wiring in the building. But I want a ceiling fan. Do they make a ceiling fan that has a wired plug that you can just run across the ceiling, down the wall and plug into an outlet? that way I don't screw with the electrical wiring, but I get the ceiling fan and overhead light I want. if anyone can confirm this type of product is made, and where I can find one, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

They do make them.. may have to have home depot or lowes special order it though. You can also attach your own plug wire to one that is supoose to be direct wired.. It's very simple to do but looks like hell most of the time.
never herd or seen one
I'm not sure if they sell one but you can wire your own cord onto it for about ten bucks. I did it with a motion light and it was easy. Just get an electrical cord and come caps and a three prong plug, and a junction box, piece of cake
If you really want to do that, just find a friend who knows house AC enough to wire in an extension cord. Personally, I think it easier to just install the correct way. It's only 3 wires.
You still have to mount the fan in a way that it will be stable.
Aside from the mounting issue, you can wire a plug into anything. You will have a cord hanging from the fan, which is not very safe, if happens to fall into the fan.
Perhaps consider an alternate form of air movement.
To take down the light fixture already there to add a ceiling fan will already mess with wiring as much as needed to attach the fan. But, if the ceiling has no light and you are adding a fan, you first have to be sure that the framing in the ceiling is reinforced to hold the weight and without even a light there it is doubtful - so - make sure that you attach it to a ceiling beam. The employees in Lowe's (or similar store)lighting department or electrical department can show you how to wire the fan with an electric cord suitable for what you are doing. This will be a heavier and more expensive than a typical extension cord. Good luck, what you want can be done - just make sure you ask and do it safely.
